I'm looking for a gauge of staffing levels for an HR department.  We are just shy of 100 people (~85) and our current HR is responsible for payroll processing and all other HR things (recruiting, filing, general employee issues, etc.).
Wondering how people with ~100 employees break up the HR/payroll responsibilities and how many people share those duties.
We are planning on getting close to 100 employees in the next year or two and I'm trying to plan ahead.
Thanks.

Charlie, I talked with a senior HR executive in a manufacturing company last week.  He has been in HR for the last 30 years and indicated to me that he has 3.5 people for 215 employees. They are on the leading edge of tracking employee engagement and are very progressive.  HR is not just a support function, in his company, but is involved in all major decisions.

I'm not sure if this helps, but it is the beginning of a benchmark.
